 In the alleys of Al-Baqaa camp, the beginning of the achievement that the women of the camp knew its way in 1987, when the Center for Women's Programs was established at the initiative of the International Relief Agency. To this day, the center is taking successful steps in order to refine women, youth and children, to show their capabilities and talents and achieve ambitions in various fields, especially that enhance their exit from the harsh conditions experienced by the refugees of the Palestinian camps in the diaspora. The story continues... The women at the Women's Program Center have achieved a strong approach to challenge and create successes... so that the focus is on supporting refugee women and putting them on the path to earning a living, and supporting awareness-raising and cultural initiatives as an important element of the humanitarian and human rights message at the center.


 

Our message:

  • Pride in the positive role of women in their society.

  • We write to every woman and to the local community groups of youth and children, with a pen full of urging to irrigate minds and encourage them to spark success stories and create a spirit of responsibility so that every girl and every young man becomes a project to build a better future.

Those in charge of managing the Women’s Program Center in Al-Baqa’a camp, since its inception until the present day, are keen to continue forming training, awareness-raising, cultural, educational, health, social and economic courses, through brainstorming and obtaining advice, advice and guidance from official authorities and international organizations to serve the recipient of “women, Children, youth. Women's programme:

Women from the local community work within a committee. The committee currently consists of 7 members:
Committee Chairwoman - Vice Chairwoman - Secretary of the Committee - Treasurer - Members
Under the name of the Local Voluntary Committee, which operates through the Women's Center and its umbrella is the International Relief Agency, represented by the Relief Program.

 

Committee responsibilities:

  • Drawing up the general policy for the special programs in the center

  • Determining the estimated annual budget and plans

  • Maintaining a database of network relationships with local community institutions and international organizations

Objectives of the local volunteer committee:

The committee is based on:

  • Supervising the Center's activities and the participatory "networking" with other concerned institutions in the fields of awareness and education

  • The Committee is interested in raising awareness in the areas of:

1. Health fields
2. Legal areas
3. Social areas
4. Economic fields
5. Qualifying fields
6. The training activities implemented in the center are mainly about educating women on human rights through CEDAW and gender

 

Sewing Department

It was established since the beginning of the center and many women and girls joined it , Where the department teaches industrial sewing, sewing, detailing, embroidery and handicrafts of all kinds. The department also occupies more than 60 women as products of embroidery pieces.

 

Computer section
It offers basic and advanced courses for school students and women, and serves female students in the camp to conduct scientific research.


Loan section
It serves women in general, and entrepreneurs in particular, and provides women with quick and easy payments for the purpose of improving or opening projects, or for the purposes of home improvement, education, and treatment.

 

Networking program:
Training courses with international educational and cultural institutions and organizations in the following areas:
Legal - health - social - economic - rehabilitative, in addition to specialized training courses - and psychological support

Kindergarten Program:

- Through the presence of kindergartens "Rawdat Al-Zuhur" was established in 1974 'in Al-Baqa'a camp: the Nablus area, next to the Nablus mosque.
Under the supervision of the Director: Asmaa Hegazy.
- Kindergarten Al-Ajyal was established in 1992 'inside Al-Baqa'a camp: Al-Karamah area, the old agency restaurant, under the supervision of the director: Zahia Al-Qannas.
The center adopts, according to the latest educational methods, to provide an educational administration for kindergartens, which covers the age group from 4 to 5 years, to establish children' - targeting the less fortunate children for the purposes of establishing them, directing their energies, and teaching them on models of effective play.
- The center sets a symbolic fee that does not exceed 15 dinars per month to open the door for many families with limited income to be able to provide education for their children.
Kindergartens work with an educational team by the best trainers and teachers with long experience and high skills in education.

 

 

What does the center do?
Through the archive of photos, activities and achievements, each trainee and graduate can see what the center has provided:
1. Integration of women's issues through plans produced by experienced women from the community and local and international organizations.
2. Monitoring issues of discrimination against women and achieving equality and equal opportunities
3. Spreading awareness of the rights of women and children and supporting their participation in achieving national development through continuous participation with various activities.
4. Focusing on priorities to meet the needs most affecting the advancement of women.
5. Professionalism in our work and the adoption of studied methodologies in developing solutions to the challenges facing women.

  • Receiving ideas and proposals and developing them in line with the center's objectives in supporting Palestinian women

Challenges and difficulties:

  • Despite the creation of creativity from the womb of suffering.. However, the Women's Program Center in Al-Baqaa camp records difficult challenges, some of which are related to the conditions of logistical and financial support.

  • And since the center will provide more than what it does to serve Palestinian women and the various societal groups, the importance of supporting it as a fuel that puts it at the forefront of achieving the goals, mission and vision that support humanity and support women in achieving better opportunities for them in light of the difficult reality they live in refugee camps.
